Small Gestures
DONNA STERNBERG & DANCERS presents Small Gestures, an informal, intimate evening of dance at the Lia Skidmore Gallery. Audience members will be seated in different configurations throughout the gallery while the dancers perform around, next to and amongst them. Employing gestural movement as the impetus for the choreography, the performance focuses on how the audiences perspective is influenced by where they are seated and how they are able to view the dancing. Seeing the dancers up close and personal in the different areas within the gallery offers a unique opportunity for audiences to experience the unfiltered energy and kineticism of the movement. The performance also celebrates fado, the historical musical genre of Portugal. The performance also celebrates fado, the historical musical genre of Portugal. Celebrated fado singer Ramana Vieira, no one in the United States is doing more to breathe new life into Fado than Ramana Vieira, a sultry, dramatic singer San Francisco Chronicle, will be performing on the program. Several of the dances will be accompanied by Ms. Vieira, lending an expressive and emotional tone to the work. The evening is a celebration of dance and music in a relaxed, non-traditional setting. Audiences will have the opportunity to interact with the company and Ms. Vieira while enjoying light refreshments.
