Christie Simmons "Learn You By Heart" Launch
Philosophical, intimate, physical, poetic. Christie Simmons album, Learn You by Heart, sings out in the tradition of singer-songwriters who use the dance between words and melody to explore the cracks in life - the cracks between words, between breaths, heartbeats, lovers, parents and children, past and present, the how and the why. In images as fresh as they are familiar, melodies that are compelling and thoughtful, these are songs and a voice that sing us into the heart of this album, keep us there listening, watching. As the title song says, Savour every second, from the very start/ Take in every detail, learn you by heart.
Roberta Rees, award-winning poet and author
Learn You By Heart is the culmination of a few years of songwriting and a lot of years living. On June 1, 2019, Christie and friends celebrate its completion with a performance and celebratory gathering at the Stampede's newly opened heritage re-creation venue, Doherty Hall. Backed by multi-instrumentalist Steve Goodchild, plus Rob McConnell on bass, and Helen Goodchild on keyboards and fiddle (along with guest cellist Shirley Wright), Christie will offer up an evening of songs from the new album plus a few older and a few freshly minted songs.
Doors open 7:30, music at 8:00
