TCL Presents "A Midwinter Night's Scream"
A Midwinter
Nights Scream, An Evening of One-Act Plays by
American Playwrights Paying Homage to Edvard Munch, is a play festival that brings audiences into the world of Edvard Munchs The Scream. This play festival will be Theater Company of Lafayettes 9th play festival. A Midwinter Nights Scream is sure to make you laugh, jump at screams and find similarities between you and an odd assortment of
characters.
The festival is launched into action with Colette Mazuniks Screaming Ed and the Nihilist, where Munch himself attempts to complete a grant application with the help of his nihilist BFF. While things do not go as planned, this witty piece incorporates some real life quotes from Munch as well as his contemporary, Hans Jaeger, creating an amusing and poignant portrait of a spirited friendship. Next, in Stuart
Outfields Blind Date join a group of tech-obsessed friends who intend on helping their reluctant pal, Ed, find a perfect love connection. This clever sketch depicts our modern love affair with social media and the resulting despair it evokes.
After Blind Date, be transported to Mooneys world in David Goldens When Pigs Fly as Mooney, a Hollywood writer of TV and screen, struggles with his disillusionment with the current political climate. His career is at a stall and hes
desperate for an optimistic sign. Then audiences will be
taken to a deserted cliff overlooking the crashing surf of a
turbulent ocean where many screams ensue in Paul Wells Desolation. Next, the audiences are invited into the passage from reality into the bowels of someones grand delusions in Emily Goldens The Depths of Human Suffering. The final short play of the night is Paul Wells Stage Flight, which takes place in an airport lounge, where strangers hover, awaiting the next leg of their journey. At the airport, Hugh, an aging failed television actor, and Clarice, a frustrated writer and school teacher, share a table and some drinks while finding common ground in their shared passion for artistic expression. Interspersed throughout the show is
C.P. Stancichs scenelets which are loosely based on other
art works like Pompeiis House of Vetti, The Girl with the Pearl Earring and Michelangelos Sistine Chapel.
A Midwinter Nights Scream features six different plays
interspersed with scenelets that have the connecting theme
of Edvard Munchs The Scream. The playwrights of these plays are located throughout the United States and have a vast array of experience levels; some of them work on television movies while some have local careers in Colorado on the stage and backstage as playwrights and directors. The diversity of background also extends to the directors who vary in experience level from newbie directors to seasoned
professionals who have directed over a dozen plays. The
actors also have varying ranges of experience levels as well
as diversity of age. The plays within A Midwinter Nights Scream feature board members at Theater Company of Lafayette as well as actors new and old to TCLs stage.
