Headlines don't sell papes. Newsies sell papes! Ever since the film first came out in 1992, we've been waiting for the stage version of this musical. This show, inspired by the 1899 newsboy strike in New York City, is the story of a band of poverty-stricken, mostly homeless kids ready to count the cost, seize the day, and take on publishing giants like Joe Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst. This ragtag bunch of kids, led by charismatic leader Jack Kelly, capture the heart of the City and the country with the help of gutsy reporter Katherine Plumber. The stakes couldn't be higher as they choose to do whats right and find justice for all the working poor across the city. That's the context of our story; the subtext, the poignant human draw of the story, transcends even the quest for justice. The real story behind Newsies creates what we all long for: home and family.
