Accessibility for California Healthcare Facilities Case Studies
This seminar will present four case studies as vehicles for demonstrating practical application of accessibility in healthcare facilities. The seminar will make an abundant use of floor plans and photographs to clarify the code requirements as they specifically relate to healthcare facilities (both OSHPD and non-OSHPD application).  

In focused segments throughout the day, in-depth code analysis will be presented to explain the concepts that are being applied in the case studies.

Case Studies:
1. OSHPD-3 Clinic Suite in an Existing Building
2. Medical Office Building Suite  Barrier Removal Work
3. General Acute Care Hospital  Addition
4. General Acute Care Hospital  Alteration Project

Learning Objectives:
1.  Understanding Sections 11B-223 and 11B-805 of the CBC; relating specifically to Healthcare Facilities
2.  Developing a Practical Understanding of Path of Travel requirements
3.  Understanding the Obligations of Barrier Removal work
4.  Understanding Clearance Requirements in Patient Treatment Areas


Attendees taking any of the scheduled AIACV Accessibility & Codes courses will receive a total of 5 ADA credits to meet their licensing requirement. AIA members will receive 5 Health Safety Welfare (HSW). Beverages and Continental Breakfast will be served. Seminars will break for a half-hour lunch. Attendees may bring a brown-bag lunch and stay on-site, or leave and return.

TIME: Door opens at 8:30 am, class begins at 9 am and runs until approximately 2:30 pm

COST: AIA Members, $100 (+svc fee) Non-members $150 (+svc fee)

About the Instructors
Bill Zellmer, AIA, CASp - Sutter Health Accessibility Architect is the in-house accessibility expert managing the accessibility upgrades throughout Sutters 24 hospitals and 200+ medical office buildings. Bills experience includes: Architect: 1987-2015; OSHPD: 1995-2009; Certified Access Specialist: 2010 - 2015; Accessibility Field Surveys: 2010  2015; Sutter Health Accessibility Expert: 2014-2015; Certified Access Specialist Institute (CASI) President: 2015-2016; CBSC Healthcare Advisory Committee: 2015-2018
