TARGET AUDIENCE: Transgender, non-binary, and cisgender providers will take away valuable information from this training. Licensed and unlicensed LPC, LCSW, LMFT, PsyD providers; medical providers; school staff, DHS caseworkers, peer mentors, foster parents, advocates, and other helping professionals
COURSE DESCRIPTION
How do providers go beyond being affirming of their TGNB clients, and provide USEFUL guidance in the fluid processes of personal, social, physical, and legal transition? How do we navigate our own identity locations and experiences when relating to clients whose experience may be similar or different from ours? How do we stay abreast of the current climate in which our clients (and we) navigate transition?
During this course, participants will be exposed to 5 years worth of data from clientele who have shared their diverse processes of transition. Participants will gain a wide range of specialized information about the dynamics of transition that will help you guide clients rather than play catch-up. At the same time, participants will be led through experiential activities to make personal connection to the information and navigate how our personal location impacts our delivery of care.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Identify elements of personal transition and interventions for navigating the psychological processes of transition
Learn key elements of physical transition including changes in hair, makeup, clothing, binding, tucking, and voice
Identify key elements of social transition and the ways to bolster support and navigate oppression
Assist someone through legal name and gender changes on documentation
Have resources to provide clients that can assist with transition
Participants will be added to the Brave Space Resource Guide, and gain access to a variety of Brave Spaces internal client resources at the end of the training.
