Horseshoe Weavings Benefit
Join us at Shepherds Way Horsemanship in Williston for a weaving workshop to benefit a local herd of neglected horses. We will take inspiration from the traditional Native dream catcher, using horseshoes and feathers collected from local farms. Bring your own snacks! Water and homemade Meyer lemonade as well as all project materials will be provided. Sketching materials will also be on hand should you happen to be inspired by one of the many rescued farm animals living at Shepherds Way.
About the Feral Herd Village Rescue:
In early March I was asked by a very good friend if I could help with a herd of horses who were in bad shape. I met the horses and their owner of March 11th. After seeing the poor condition of the horses and hearing of how many died in recent months, I offered to take all 15 horses. The owner agreed and signed them all over to me. With the help of the core group of women who began this endeavour, word spread and many kind and generous people stepped up to help in every way possible. The vast majority of these horses have never been haltered, some hardly touched. Many had never had their feet trimmed or had any vet care. Based on the poor body condition of many of the horses they were clearly not getting enough nutrition. Many of the mares were nursing yearlings, and several are pregnant. There were 5 uncastrated colts and one gelding who had been recently castrated. The horses arrived at my farm on March 15th.
We are not a rescue. We are not a non-profit. We are a community of people who have banded together to rescue a herd of feral, neglected horses.
Our goal is the get these horses handled, healthy, and into homes within the next 6 months. Will you help us? It takes a village!
