The Nice Guy Trio - Bay Area Now (BAN 5)
Tonights performance features Red Poppy Art House Resident Artists, The Nice Guy Trio in their The Nice Guys + 1 Series. The Nice Guy Trio is Darren Johnston (trumpet), Rob Reich (accordion), and Daniel Fabricant (bass). Together they create a sound that is both intimate and reflective of their contrasting yet complimentary musical backgrounds and always with an emphasis on spontaneity. Their performances navigate a uniquely diverse collection of original compositions and songs from folk traditions across the globefrom jazz and klezmer to Balkan dance forms, calypso and beyond. In the "+1 Series, the group is inviting a diverse cross-section of local musicians to collaborate, and each concert will feature original music from The Nice Guys, as well as the guest artists. This evenings performance features violinist Dina Macabee and cellist Alex Kelly. Dina has appeared/recorded with Vetiver, Wilco, Carla Bozulich, Sufjan Stevens, The Cuts, Mars Arizona and more. After earning three bachelors degrees and two masters degrees in music, Alex Kelly completed a doctorate in cello performance with a secondary area in composition from the University of Oregon. Alex has performed and composed for a variety of ensembles throughout the United States and Canada for the past fifteen years.
