¡ESPAÑA HOY! SPANISH CONTEMPORARY CINEMA AT LA NACIONAL IN NEW YORK CITY, PRESENTED BY BRONX WORLD FILM
¡España Hoy! spotlights contemporary cinema by young and emerging Spanish and Spanish-descended filmmakers or by non-Spaniards on Spanish themes living anywhere in the world. It is dedicated purely to art house cinema in all its manifestations, as are all of Bronx World Films programs.
We screen at La Nacional, or Spanish Benevolent Society, in Manhattan. It is one of New York Citys oldest continuously operating community-based arts organizations, and in 2018 celebrated its 150th anniversary of serving the Spanish community, communities in the Spanish-speaking world and beyond. It is a one-of-a-kind institution in New York City, and we are proud to call it our sponsor since the founding of Bronx World Film in 2011. ¡España Hoy! is now in its second year, and was founded to benefit both the permanent programming at La Nacional and the new generation of filmmakers in search of new opportunities in the global arena.
Last year, La Nacional also re-opened its first-floor restaurant, now reincarnated as a 21st-century Spanish gastronomy establishment with resident chefs brought directly from Spain. It is the most daring, radical initiative undertaken in the last 50 years. With this it aims to guarantee its next 150 years of existence as a mission-driven organization that also remains financially viable.
