Flowers Food and a Colonial Dude

Featuring keynote speaker Kirk Brown who will present two (2) programs.

Gardening on the Verge - Verge. As a noun it means an edge or border. As a verb it means to approach (something) closely. Is gardening close to a break-through of major proportions or are we just hovering on the edge?  Everyone should be gardening: on the verge of plant sanity! If everyone is Gardening (capital G) then its an extremely good thing for those of us who garden! How can gardeners carry the rest of the population to the edge and push it over into the dirt-under-the-nails experience that gardeners recognize as the gift we leave for our descendants? Lets explore the verges yet to be planted!

John Bartram Lives - first and foremost horticulturist and plant collector greets you to the epicenter of International Ornamental Horticulture. None other than the great Carl Linnaeus called him, The worlds greatest natural botanist! Close friends with Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington as well as many of the other founding fathers, he is credited with introducing more than 200 of Americas native plants to the international trade. He wrote the American appendix to the British Pharmacopoeia that was in use until 1950. He was especially conscious of how easily man can destroy the balance in nature.  His humor, his passion and his achievements will entertain, inspire and awe as he shares his hope for the future of the earth and men who inhabit it.

Jennifer Bartley will present:
Food and Flowers Forever
Every season has its gifts of food and flowers from the garden. Early spring means pea shoots and spicy mustard greens for salads and peonies for the vase. Even in winter we might gather some parsley and sage for the holiday dressing and evergreens, red winterberries and dried fronds for wreaths. Jennifer Bartley shares her vision on how we can set up our gardens for maximum joy and pleasure so we always have something to nibble on or gather for flower arrangements every day of the year. Food and flowers, every day.
