THE CHILDREN'S HOUR by Lillian Hellman
Ghost Light Projects is pleased to bring this ground breaking piece to the stage in Vancouver.
Written in 1934, it ran for two years on Broadway when, at the time, any mention of homosexuality on stage was illegal in New York State. Its theme was overlooked due to the immense popularity of the show.
After the play was banned in Boston, Chicago and London, it opened in Paris, retitled Les Innocents.
The play has had two film adaptations. One in 1936, when, because of the Lesbian themes to the play, it was changed to a heterosexual theme. In 1961, it was brought to the screen with its original themes intact and starred Shirley MacLaine and Audrey Hepburn.
