This working-lunch seminar provides a multi-faceted window into the world of data science. Advances in hardware, telecommunications, software and mobile technology have resulted in a data deluge that will continue to overwhelm Businesses, governments and society. Additionally cloud technology and the Internet-of-Things (IoT) are having a major impact on data generation and management.  According to IBM, 90% of the data on the internet has been created since 2016. While data is the new oil unlocking its potential will require serious effort.

At the heart of this effort is data science  a multidisciplinary blend of artificial intelligence, mathematical methods, algorithms and tools to extract knowledge and insights from structured and unstructured data.

The data science field is explored with a focus on understanding characteristics of data and its management, the data science process, managing data-intensive projects and understanding the critical success factors for successfully navigating the data science tool landscape. Current trends will be highlighted with some perspectives on the future of AI and machine learning.
