Restoration Walk: Discovery Park
Clay Antieau and David Hutchinson will give a tour of restoration areas in Discovery Park. They will describe the challenges, practices, failures and successes in attempts to restore ecosystem functions in this 600 acre urban park in Seattle's Magnolia neighborhood. Restoration activity has focused on maintaining quality existing forest patches and establishing new areas of forest dominated by native conifers. Success is challenged by numerous invasive species, diminished soil foodwebs, and loss of native biodiversity.
The Tour covers 3 miles, rain or shine. Bring binoculars and field guides plus a sack lunch and water. Meet at the Park's South Parking Lot, the nearest entrance is at Oregon Avenue and West Emerson Street.
