SPEAKER SERIES: Joseph Jonah Therrien | The People's Puppets of Occupy Wall Street
We invite you to join us for Joe Therrien from The People's Puppets of Occupy Wall Street!  For the last two years, Joe has been animating giant statues, directing public weddings between corporations and people, and performing utopian toy theater take-overs of subway cars -all inspired by Occupy's call for social and economic justice.  Hear his amazing stories of collaboration with hundreds of enthusiastic artists while dealing with the challenges of a system determined to squelch dissent.  His passion for the art of puppetry will ignite your creativity and show you how puppets can change the world!

Joseph Jonah Therrien completed his 3rd year in The University of Connecticut's Puppet Arts MFA candidate Program in 2011 and has since been teaching, performing, designing, and directing in New York City and the Northeast.  In the fall of 2011, Joseph founded The People's Puppets of Occupy Wall Street a democratic collective of artists who believe that puppetry has a unique role in fighting for social and economic justice.  Since its founding, The People's Puppets have created hundreds of puppets and other visual props and messaging for Occupy Wall Street and other allied groups' actions.  Joseph directed The People's Puppets' original production of Jack and the Corporate Beanstalk at the 2012 NYC Fringe Festival.  The People's Puppets are committed to creating free public performances that entertain, agitate, and activate the 99%

How do inspirational people become the success stories that motivate our own creativity? Who inspires them? Come find out at the Guest Speaker series where each amazing talent will answer these questions and more! Moderated by Carole D'Agostino and modeled on the traditions of Allelu Kurten's Meet The Artist, you'll enjoy an intimate and lively conversation with Leslie, and a Q&A session at the end.
