Wednesday, Jan 23, 8PM, Jay Alexander and Friends, Fog City Magic Opening Gala.We kick off our fourth annual festival with festival co-founder and star of the long running Marrakech Magic Theater, Jay Alexander! Join him and his friends Andrew Evans (Penn & Tellers Fool Us, The Magic Patio, The Magic Castle), Adam Cheyer (Co-founder of Siri and Change.org), Grumpy Princess (UpWorthy, Misfit Cabaret, Tourettes Without Regrets), and New York City magic legend, Peter Samelson (Monday Night Magic, PBS, Broadway magic consultant), for an epic evening of magic, mischief, and variety.

Thursday, Jan 24, 7PM, David Hirata, The Jap Box. Inspired by the story of magician Namigoro Sumidagawa, who in 1866 became the first Japanese citizen to be issued a passport to visit the West, where one of his prize illusions was appropriated by American magicians in yellowface, and renamed, The Jap Box. The Jap Box is a unique look at Asian American history from the point of view of Japanese-American magician David Hirata. Part theatrical story, part magic show, The Jap Box explores illusions of race and identity through the magic of two cultures.

Thursday, Jan 24, 9PM, Peter Samelson, Possibly Impossible. Christened the soft-spoken conceptualist of sorcery by the New York Times, Peter Samelson has distinguished himself not only as a magician, but as an artist, insisting that he doesnt do magic: he only helps people to see the magic already in their minds. Hes an illusionist, entertainer, and philosopher, blending simplicity and sophistication, provoking thought and wonder. This will be a fantastic evening for all who are children-at-heart.

Friday, Jan 25, 8PM, Jade, The Magic of Jade. A Fog City Magic Fest fan favorite, Jade took the male-dominated world of magic by storm in 1990, when she won first place in the International Brotherhood of Magicians' World Magic Competition. More importantly, a panel of celebrity judges honored her with the organization's coveted Gold Medal of Magic, a prize awarded only a handful of times in the competition's history. Of Chinese heritage and raised on the island of Sumatra, Jade's fluency in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English has allowed her to exchange illusionary techniques with other master magicians throughout the globe, expanding her enchanting repertoire!

Sat, Jan 26, 1PM, Grumpy Princess, Heckin Ladylike Magic Stuff. She hates glass slippers, doesnt have a fairy godmother, and has pretty much given up on the whole sugar and spice thing. Her hobbies include burping, eating nachos, and yelling at people who call her Cinderella. Grumpy Princess brings her brand new kids show to Fog City Magic Fest; a princess show for all princes, princesses, and fairytale creatures.

Sat, Jan 26, 4PM, Ryan Kane, Close-up Encounters. Fog City Magic Fest is excited to offer its first close-up magic show! Spend the afternoon with the Bay Areas best close-up magicians to witness the charming deceptions of Theron Schaub, the wizardly feats of Kim Silverman, the smooth sleight-of-hand stylings of Sanj Singh, and the subtle theatricality of Michael Feldman, all curated and hosted by San Franciscos favorite magician Ryan Kane! This special show takes place in EXIT Theatres very intimate Studio Theatre. Get your tickets soon because seats are limited and we will sell out!

Sat, Jan 26, 8PM, Christian Cagigal and Friends, MAGIC SLAM! We close out our week of magic and mayhem with the always popular MAGIC SLAM! Four magicians split into two teams, are given one secret ingredient (okay its really more like three ingredients), and they get thirty minutes to create the GREATEST MAGIC TRICK IN THE WORLD! This years contestants are Danté Mancini, Brian Scott (Discover Magic), Brad Barton (The Lost Church), and David Gerard (PianoFight). Who lives? Who dies? Come find out at MAGIC SLAM hosted by Christian Cagigal (Fog City Magic Fest Co-founder, EXIT Theatre Artist-in-Residence, Best of the Bay Winner 2018).
