Farming with Beneficial Insects for Pest Control: A Conservation Biological Control Intensive
Conservation biological control is a science-based pest management strategy that seeks to integrate beneficial insects back into cropping systems for natural pest control. In this full-day course, participants will learn how to identify helpful insects in the field at various stages in their life cycles, and how to support species of beneficial insects that provide pest control, how the impact of farm practices on beneficial insects, and how to assess and create farm habitat for beneficial insects.
Techniques discussed will include beetle banks, buffers, windbreaks, cover crops, field borders, hedgerows, insectary strips, wildflower meadows, and more. This workshop is ideal for farmers, homesteaders, and serious gardeners who are seeking to reduce inputs and create a healthy agro-ecological system.
Registration includes Xerces book, Farming With Native Beneficial Insects, as well as habitat management guidelines and relevant extension publications.
