Droma Fest 08 presents Watcha Clan, Ansambl Mastika + DJ Derek Beres
The Droma Gypsy Festival 2008 will bring over a dozen Gypsy and Gypsy-influenced artists from Europe and the US to NYC for 9 days of colorful Gypsy spirit (Sept 24 Oct 3). In its 4th year running, the festival will once again present the breadth of contemporary Gypsy music from all over the world with a line-up that includes bands which preserve the original musical forms as well as others that mix it up with electronica, jazz, dub and European-style cabaret.
Watcha Clan is a French band that mixes oral traditions with a dance/electronic sensibility from the Balkan mountains down to the Mediterranean shores. Ansambl Mastika plays music from Northern Greece, Serbian, Macedonia, Turkey and Bulgarian weddings. DJ Derek Beres tours internationally with GlobeSonic Sound System and has played at Turntables on the Hudson, Cielo, SOB's, Nublu, Joe's Pub, Kush and countless others.
Doors open at 6 pm.
