JUMP ON THE BOMB with Megan Gray
What do you do when no one steps out for a scene? When it seems that there are no more ideas? Just jump on the bomb. Get out there. Do something. This workshop explores the generation of organic initiations, trusting our instincts, and working off of nothing.

MAGNET THEATER INSTRUCTOR BIOS FOR JUNE 8 & 15 WORKSHOPS

JON BANDER is an actor and comedian in NYC. He has been doing comedy of all forms for the past 8 years. You can catch him performing at the Magnet Theater with improv house team Phooka or sketch trio BAM, or doing standup at various NYC venues. He was a creator and host of the variety show Her Majesty's Standup and was a cast member in such shows as The Necropolitans, The Wisdom Circle, Factory Factory and The Shandling. As an actor he has tackled roles as challenging and divergent as Meat Loaf and Santa Claus. Jon has studied with many of the finest improv luminaries including Armando Diaz, Kevin Dorff, TJ Jagodowski, David Pasquesi, Joe Bill, Mick Napier and Susan Messing to name a few.

Jon graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in Journalism and Media Studies. Mostly his journalist notepads were for writing jokes or cartoons about how bored he was.

Most people just call him Bander. Feel free to do the same.

MEGAN GRAY is the Artistic Director of the Magnet Theater, a writer, performer and native New Yorker. She has performed with Second City aboard the NCL Gem and is a member of Magnet's resident team "Junior Varsity" and "Magnet Theater Touring Company."

In addition to teaching Level One and the Lady Party class, Megan has taught improvisation at C.W. Post University, Brookdale Community College, Fairfield University, Columbia Business School and festivals around the country. She has studied improv at the Magnet and the UCB Theatre with Armando Diaz, Kevin Dorff, Christina Gausas, Dave Pasquesi, TJ Jagodowski, Jean Villepique, Joe Bill, Dave Razowsky and many others.

Megan graduated with a degree in Dramatic Writing from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts and has written for MTV2 and Comedy Central online. She has appeared on "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon" and "Late Show With David Letterman." In her spare time, she travels the country performing with her improv duo "MegaLou" (with Louis Kornfeld).

MICHAEL LUTTON moved to New York in 2006 to study acting at the Michael Howard Studios Conservatory. After Rachel Hamilton and Armando Diaz came in to do a week-long improv workshop, he was hooked. He has been taking classes and performing at the Magnet ever since. In addition to Armando and Rachel, he's had the pleasure of studying with James Eason, Tara Copeland, Michael Martin, Mark Grenier, and Alex Marino. Michael currently performs musical improv on Tuesday nights with BEEES!!! and non-musical improv on Wednesday nights with Leviathan.

UPRIGHT CITIZENS BRIGADE THEATER WORKSHOPS FOR JUNE 16

The UCB Theatre Training Center bases their curriculum around the idea that all quality individual comedic scenes focus in on one central comedic idea  this idea is referred to as "The Game" of the scene.
UCB Theater workshops focus on teaching students how to use the idea of "The Game" to create their improvised scenes.  Concepts addressed will include how to identify "games" within scenes, and how to use the concept of heightening to properly play out scenes once games have been discovered.

SUNDAY, JUNE 16 11 AM - 2 PM The Coors Dance Studio at Flashpoint
IMPROV OPENINGS with Brandon Scott Jones
UCB instructor Brandon Scott Jones will review and train you in three varieties of long-form improv openings: PATTERN GAME; INVOCATION; SOUND AND MOVEMENT. The workshop will focus on generating premises through support; the difference between premise, half-idea, and organic initiations off of an opening; and collaborating on defining objectives so everyone can quickly get on the same page!
