Brahms' Liebeslieder Waltzes & More: A Collection of Love and Night Songs
Brahms Liebeslieder Waltzes are a collection of love songs scored for four-hand piano and and in an interesting ad lib style. Liebeslieder represent the mingling of the folk music of northern Germany and the waltzes of Upper Austria. The text comes from George Friedrich Daumer poems, which are pastoral verses on both the positive and negative attributes of love.
When first composed, Brahms intended for the waltzes to be played in parlors or informal home gatherings. In this first performance of the 2018-19 season, the Cheyenne Chamber Singers will present these and other love songs in the intimate St. Marks Episcopal Church space.
