DARA SMITH-MACDONALD, was born and raised in Antigonish, but has strong family roots in Inverness. She now resides in Port Hawkesbury. She has been playing the fiddle for over 20 years with a style that is strong, lively and traditional. Dara has played for concerts, ceilidhs, and dances throughout Cape Breton, mainland Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Ontario and the United States. She has performed for the Antigonish Highland Games, the Acoustic Roots Festival, Kitchenfest and Celtic Colours. For the past 15 years, she has been teaching fiddle to students at St. Anns Gaelic College, as well as to many students in her home and around the world via Skype. Dara is a musical director and a board member of the Cape Breton Fiddlers Association.

ADAM YOUNG is a sought-after pianist from the community of French Road. His unique style adds depth, solidity, and a joyful forward motion to the music. He created and directed the Louisbourg Playhouses popular music and comedy revue, Cape Breton Lyrics & Laughter, which has seen over 350 performances since it began 15 years ago. He regularly plays at concerts, ceilidhs, square dances and sessions throughout Cape Breton, and has showcased his talents in Scotland and Ireland, across Canada and in the United States. He can also be heard on recordings by Dara Smith-MacDonald, Colin Grant, Cape Breton Lyrics & Laughter, Eric Angus Whyte, Jason MacDonald and Marilyn MacDonald-MacKinnon.

"THE LAKE SESSIONS - a new album of Cape Breton Fiddle and Piano music" was released in June of 2017 and Dara and Adam are touring to support the album which will be available for sale at this event. https://thelakesessions.com/

All ages welcome, cash bar. Parking on the street or at the city parking lot on Murray St between Dalhousie & Cumberland.

Wondering about the square dancing? Cape Breton square sets aren't actually square and they're not complicated. As long as you know your right hand from your left and can count as high as four you'll do just fine! Gary and Debbie will be on hand to guide you through the motions and make sure you stay on course. In addition to square sets there will also be waltzes for round dancing and some step dancing too. And of course you can always just sit back and enjoy the music too.
