Accessing the Comic Creator Summer Shapiro
Creation and play are some of our strongest instincts as human beings; this workshop focuses directly on that to awaken participants to their deep well of creativity and give them tools to use it with courage and grace. The curriculum focuses on a variety of performance and devising techniques to give participants tools to build their own material, a few being: physical comedy techniques, how to structure your play, dynamism and authenticity. Open to all performance levels, for the material challenges the student at their level whether it be professional or amateur.
About the Instructor Summer Shapiro has 10 years of teaching experience. She incorporates methods from the San Francisco Clown Conservatory, Action Theater, international street performance, UCLA's School of Theater and luminaries Peter Sellars, and John Gilkey. Shapiro has lead her workshops in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Ireland and Guatemala. She has worked with participants ranging from theater professionals to incarcerated women with the Medea Project; from performer-educators in Kaiser Permanente's Educational Theater Programs to K-12 with the New Victory Theater in Times Square, NY. http://www.summershapiro.com/classes/
