On the cold morning of his first day as director of a strip mine, Krzysztof understands that he does not fit into this rough, blue-collar environment and intends to enforce discipline with a firm hand.  These notions and Krzysztofs moral principles will be tested by a workers accident.  He will realize that decisiveness is easy in good circumstances, but standing up to evil is difficult when the consequences might be dramatic.

Edward, Dawids father, was a ships captain was home for only a few days a year.  Now, even though Dawid has his own family, he decides to care for his father who has Alzheimers.  Edwards rapidly progressing illness proves an overwhelming obstacle to rebuilding the relationship between the father and the son.  Even though this should be the time for them to improve their relationship the illness makes it impossible.  Every day Edward has fewer and fewer of the memories that Dawid hoped would fill in the gaps in his past.  How much of his present life will Dawid sacrifice to learn from his fathers past and to share his fathers last moments of consciousness and?
