Songs of Farewell
To honour the 100th anniversary of Armistice Day, Strata has prepared a collection of choral gems aptly entitled Songs of Farewell. Central to this concert is Requiem by Canadian composer Eleanor Daley, which features both traditional and contemporary lyrics. This poignant and uplifting work was awarded the 1994 National Choral Award for Outstanding Choral Composition of the Year by the Association of Canadian Choral Conductors and it is not to be missed.
Also on the program is riks Eenvalds musical setting of the poem Only in Sleep, by Sara Teasdale. The poem, which describes an old womans dreams where her childhood friends come to life, is beautifully expressed in song as the composer recreates the wistful memories of youth.
Other notable and touching selections are The Ground by Ola Gjeilo, Alleluia by Randall Thompson, Kontakion by Stephanie Martin, Cantique de Jean Racine by Gabriel Fauré, and arrangements of three familiar folk songs: The Parting Glass, Four Strong Winds, and Loch Lomond.
We invite you to join us for Songs of Farewell, a concert of hauntingly beautiful music that we hope will leave your soul refreshed and renewed.
