Jared Waln, 2015 1st place winner of the Thursday Musical Annual Artists Competition and 1st place winner of the Festival Orchestra Concerto Competition in the guitar category at the University of St. Thomas. Recent notable performances include Mozarts Don Giovanni with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra. Music by Judy Garland, George Gershwins Porgy and Bess, a Symphonic Picture, and Rhapsody in Blue with the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra. Joaquin Rodrigos Concierto de Aranjuez performed with musicians of the Minnesota Orchestra and the Minnesota Opera. Guitar feature with the Grand Symphonic Winds under director Dr. Matthew George performance at Iowa State University.
Musical education includes: University of St. Thomas studying under Dr. Chris Kachian and Anoka Ramsey Community College studying under Dr. Jason Vanselow. Jared is currently attending the University of St. Thomas pursuing his Masters Degree in K-12 Instrumental Music Education.
Classical and jazz guitarist, Jared has performed throughout the U.S. including Arizona, Florida, Iowa, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and California. Jared has performed recitals throughout Minnesota at a number a different universities and venues including: Orchestra Hall, MacPhail Center for Music, University of Minnesota, University of Minnesota Duluth, St. Olaf University, St. Catherine University, University of St. Thomas, St. Kate's University, Bethel University, Shubert Club, Jazz Central Studios, and more. In 2015, Jared was featured as guest solo artist with the University of St. Thomas String Orchestra for their annual Christmas concert performing live at Orchestra Hall which was broadcasted live on PBS. Other recent television publications include the Baby Blue Arts Program, www.babybluearts.com, where Jared was featured as guest artist and interviewed for their local program performing solo classical compositions from the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic Era. In addition to television publication Jared has also been involved with local radio. He was featured as a guest solo artist with the University of St. Thomas Chamber Choir at Bethel College during Vocal Essence in the Great Benson Hall at Bethel University which was broadcasted live on Minnesota Public Radio Classical MPR, 99.5 FM.
Jared performs in many different groups, churches, and theaters throughout the Twin Cities. He regularly plays for musicals, weddings, churches, nursing homes, private parties, and more.
In addition to his widespread musical performance background, Jared is also involved with musical instruction. Going into his 7th year, he currently teaches private lessons at Reynolds Music in Anoka, MN where he currently holds over 50+ students. Jared has also instructed the guitar ensemble at the St. Paul Conservatory for the Performing Arts and has guest directed the guitar ensemble at the University of St. Thomas.
