Murakami Music: The Tale of Miu, Reiko's Monologue, and Other Stories
Conceived by pianist Eunbi Kim and in collaboration with actress Laura Yumi Snell, Murakami Music is a series of multi-disciplinary presentations based on the writings of novelist Haruki Murakami. A number of Murakami's characters play piano or are passionate musicians, and there are references to classical music, as well as references to popular music, like the Beatles, and to jazz and blues. This concert will include performances of solo piano works by Mozart, Chopin, Debussy, Prokofiev, and Beatles with live readings that explore the pianist characters in Murakami's books including "Sputnik Sweetheart" and "Norwegian Wood."
Time: Doors at 7:30pm, Concert at 8:00pm
There will be a short audience Q&A session after the show and reception immediately following.
This project was incubated and presented by the cell theatre in Chelsea this past fall and is being further developed into an evening length concert and collaboration with a video artist.
The cell is a not-for-profit collective for artists to incubate and present new work.
