Unfinished: An Opera - A NEW CONCERT READING
Vital Opera is pleased to announce a concert reading of Joshua Groffman and Sarah Heady's Unfinished: An Opera, featuring newly added material. Unfinished tells the story of the life and death of Bennett College in Millbrook, NY. Originally opened as a finishing school for young women in 1907, Bennett's abrupt closing in 1977 forever altered the economic and physical fabric of the village. Today, the abandoned campus remains fenced off and in ruins, a stark contrast to its beautiful environs and a lasting reminder of what was lost. Using a mix of archival materials and contemporary testimony from Bennett alumni and the Millbrook community, Unfinished explores how Bennett is remembered, and forgotten, today.
Featuring: Maggie Finnegan, soprano Danielle Messina, soprano Kristin Gornstein, mezzo soprano Jose Rubio, baritone Kristen Kemp, piano Rale Micic, electric guitar Daniela Candillari, conductor
Joshua Groffman, composer Sarah Heady, librettist
7pm Pre-show talk with composer Joshua Groffman and librettist Sarah Heady, moderated by Vital Opera General Director Kelvin Chan.
The concert reading will be followed by a facilitated artist-audience discussion.
