BRAINTREE FOLK PRESENTS
Two talented groups share the bill equally in this opening show for Braintree Folk's 6th season.
"Mark Mandeville and Raianne Richards create music that is both original and evocative of a rich tradition. Blending distinctive voices and a wide range of accompaniment (guitar, harmonica, ukulele, clarinet, penny whistle, electric bass), their songs have been well-received by audiences around the eastern United States and Canada since 2010. Transcending the genre of folk Americana, their music echoes inspiration from traditional folk duos and singer/songwriters like Ian & Sylvia, Kate Wolf and Neil Young combining beautiful harmonies and a lyrical intensity, while establishing a unique sound of their own." -- Nick Noble
The Bagboys are a historic part of the Boston area acoustic music scene, where they have performed weekly for over 25 years. Harvey Bag (bass) and Frank Drake (mandolin) are prolific composers and keep the band well stocked with brand new old-time songs and Americana future classics. Gretchen Bowder and Brian Prindle lend their talents on the banjo, guitar, and vocals in an array of classic and lesser-known numbers, from Appalachian melodies to favorites from the golden age of American songwriting. High energy and fun!
Enjoy the warm and inviting atmosphere of the Parish Hall at All Souls Church of Braintree (listed on the National Register of Historic Places). Fresh pastries donated by Fratelli's Bakery and Fair Trade Coffee from Equal Exchange are offered for sale. Presented with generous support from Braintree Folk Sustainers: South Shore Bank.
