BURLESQUE INTENSIVE: Neo-Burlesque (Winter 2019)

About the Instructor:
DR. PEDI BOURGEOIS is a performer, producer, scholar, and educator with an abundance of teaching experience and an active imagination. Known for her comedic, thought-provoking, and sometimes bizarre neo-burlesque acts, Pedi also holds a Ph.D. in cultural anthropology and wrote her dissertation, in part, on Twin Cities burlesque history and the current revival. She currently teaches in the American Studies and Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies Departments at the University of Minnesota, and she is a certified Feldenkrais movement instructor.
Pedi blends her knowledge of burlesque performance conventions with a sense of playfulness and possibility. In her classes at The Playful Peacock, she hopes to create a supportive, fun environment in which students can both dream big and make those dreams come to fruition.
THE PLAYFUL PEACOCK ACADEMY, the first school of its kind in the Twin Cities, was founded by Ophelia Flame and Gina Louise, who have been performing together since 2003 and teaching burlesque workshops since 2005. The belief that there's a bit of showpony in all of us is the drive behind their mission: to teach burlesque technique, performance, and history while encouraging self-expression and body confidence, welcoming students of all levels and backgrounds.
