Science of Magic Pre-Conference Gala
Join the Science of Magic Association for this once-in-a-lifetime evening of magic and illusion! The Science of Magic Association (SoMA) promotes rigorous research directed toward understanding the nature, function, and underlying mechanisms of magic. The group hosts biennial conferences that begin with a public Gala Show.
This year's Gala Show features Mac King, The Aronsons, Jeanette Andrews, Mister Danny, and more!
Attendees must be at least 16 years of age.
About the Performers:
Mac King
Acclaimed by MAGIC Magazine as the premiere comedy magician in the world today, Mac was just named Magician of the Year by the Magic Castle in Hollywood, just broke a Guinness World Record, just appeared on his seventh TV special for NBC-TV, just got voted the sixth best show in all of Las Vegas, just rocked the audience on The Late Show with David Letterman, tore it up on Penn & Tellers Fool Us (where Penn and Teller called Mac, The greatest comedy magician at least alive today, and maybe who ever lived), and his book from Random House just entered its 12th printing. Hes been named Entertainer of the Year by Las Vegas Weekly, and Best Magician, Best Bargain Show, and Favorite Male Las Vegan by the Las Vegas Review Journal. He is currently starring in the long-running The Mac King Comedy Magic Show at Harrahs Casino and Hotel in Las Vegas where, over the last 18 years, he has performed over 9000 shows to more than two million fans.
His astounding sleight of hand and irresistible humor has been seen both live and on television in China, Spain, Japan, Germany, Australia, Denmark, Sweden, England, Argentina, Holland, Finland, Canada, Chile, and Portugal.
According to his wife and daughter, he is a fine husband, a great dad, and all around swell fellow.
The Aronsons: It's the Thought That Counts
The Aronsons have been presenting their show "Its the Thought that Counts" around the world for over 40 years. Overflowing with audience participation, their program is fast-paced, fun-filled, and guaranteed "thought-provoking" entertainment. Jeanette Andrews, Sensory Illusionist
Jeanette Andrews is a sensory illusionist who specializes in creating performative, art-based interactive sensory magic, possessing a contemplative take on the art of the impossible. Andrews uses scientific oddities and sensory anomalies to bridge everyday life to a special, heightened world. Hailed as one of the most innovative illusionists today, Andrews has staged hundreds of performances at museums, theaters and universities across the United States, including sold-out and standing-room-only crowds at the International Museum of Surgical Science, Birmingham Museum of Art, and Chicago Ideas Week. She recently completed her third series of performances for Museum of Contemporary Art, presenting Invisible Roses, commissioned by the museum in honor of their 50th anniversary. Her work explores how illusions construct reality and highlights astonishing aspects of everyday life via moments of the seemingly impossible. Combining influences not typically seen in magic performances such as immersive theater, quantum physics, and philosophy, Andrews has invented a unique take on this ancient art form. She is the only magician worldwide known to be awarded an artists residency, including being a High Concept Labs Sponsored Artist and artist in residence for The Institute for Art and Olfaction. Illusion is Ms. Andrews lifes work and her performances have been praised by The Daily Mail, the Chicago Tribune and PBS.
Mister Danny
MISTER DANNY (Danny Rudnick) is a Chicago-based magician, performing regularly at The Chicago Magic Lounge as well as at other venues and private events around the city. He has won multiple awards for close-up magic and his stage act, and also specializes in shows for children and families. Additionally, Mister Danny runs the Magic Inc. Summer Magic Camp, teaches magic to students of all ages, and performs monthly at the University of Chicago Childrens Hospital. On top of those accomplishments, Mister Danny is a full-time high school advanced chemistry teacher.
