Tony Denikos and Andrew McKnight
Doors: 7:00 pm Showtime: 8:00 pm
We're thrilled to welcome back Americana artist Tony Denikos to the Sevareid House - this time with his compadre Virginia Singer-Songwriter Andrew McKnight. If we're real lucky we'll get the chance to hear some of their collaborative work and Tony will break out the Dobro!
TONY DENIKOS
"Tony Denikos has garnered so much praise and reviews that I wasn't left with hardly any adjectives for my own review. There's a warmth and natural soulfulness to this sound that is as much approachable as it is admirable. Next time I sit beside Prine at Arnold's Meat & Three, I am going to hip him to the fact that I know who is going to fill his shoes when he retires." --Gary Allen (JJ Cale/The Charlie Daniels Band/Stonewall Jackson)
"Tony Denikos' songwriting is filled with emotion and romanticism, moving from social commentary to small portraits of American life.... A good example of modern Americana and songwriting of noble birth."--Fabio Cerbone - www.rootshighway.it -Italy"
If you've seen one of Tony's appearances at The Sevareid House or around town, you know that his special connection with audiences is one of the reasons why he is one of the DC/Baltimore area's fan favorites. You also know that he is a life-long friend and talented songwriter who's work has won him national recognition with songwriting awards and an international following for his recorded work. He has participated in some of the area's most popular collaborative projects (See the Newmyer Flyer production of Time Love's a Hero - A Little Feat Tribute coming to the Birchmere on 12/1/18!) in recognition of his vocal and interpretive talents AND he hosts a monthly songwriter's showcase at the Music Cafe in Damascus, MD.
Northern Virginia is a little out of the way of his normal stomping ground so we are thrilled to be able to share his magic with our friends on this side of the river.
ANDREW MCKNIGHT
"With a voice reminiscent of Don McLean, McKnight traverses from old-time Appalachian tunes to contemporary folk and blues, all backed up by his dead-on guitar playing" - The Boston Globe
Since permanently leaving his corporate environmental engineering career in 1996, award-winning folk/Americana artist Andrew McKnight's musical journey has traced nearly a million miles of blue highways, and earned him a wealth of critical acclaim and enthusiastic fans for his captivating performances and seven recordings. Andrew's solo performances are powerful and entertaining one-man theatre, delivered with warmth and down-home comfort. He weaves his finely-crafted songs and nimble flatpicking together with humorous stories and poetic drama, while the musical soundscape traverses influences from Appalachia, spooky slide and jazzy blues, feisty anthems, and rustic folk. While his skillful guitar work provides a tasteful foundation, the touches of native American cedar flute, resonator guitar, djembe (African hand drum) and even mandolin add delightful and mesmerizing embellishments to the show.
Over his 20-year career he has enjoyed many accolades within the folk music world; a Formal Showcase Artist at Folk Alliance International (FAI), Southeast (SERFA) and Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) conferences, a Performing Songwriter Top 12 DIY selection, and finalist in the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival Songwriter Showcase, Kerrville New Folk and Falcon Ridge Emerging Artist competitions.
We're excited to introduce Andrew to our community of music lovers at The Sevareid House!
