REWRITE YOUR STORY: Heal Through Creative Writing with Anna Talhami

In the Rewrite Your Story workshop, we reclaim the stories of ourselves and learn creative writing at the same time. This experience is healing, connecting and fun. We will have time to work together and individually to find our collective and personal stories. This workshop is open to everyone of all levels of writing. From those with no experience to seasoned writers, everyone will find something new and inspiring.
What you will take away:
By learning new ways to tell our stories, we can create a better future and ease the burdens of our past. Scientific studies have shown that there are ways of retelling our stories that repair and rewire neural pathways in the brain.
You will learn prompts to help let go of anxiety, grief and shame and experience more freedom, resilience and happiness. Powerful and inspiring writing also comes out of rewriting and reclaiming the stories of ourselves.
We will explore these methods that you can take with you to continue to heal and create dynamic personal writing from your authentic voice.
Anna Talhami:
Anna Talhami has been a television writer, poet and storyteller for over 15 years. Her work has appeared internationally: on film, stage, in print, in national museum and gallery exhibitions, and on TV, including ABC Family, Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), MTV and many other networks. She has written, directed and produced documentary series including on transgender advocacy and youth imprisonment. While writing, she has created, organized and participated in peace building and collective trauma healing in the US, Middle East and Europe.

Please plan to arrive at 12:30 to leave time for parking and settling in, so we can all begin together.
Registration:
Seating is limited, we fill up. Advance purchase is required.
Registration is sliding scale, $100 - $45. We ask that everyone choose the ticket price that best represents their ability to pay.
Scholarships:
A limited amount of partial scholarships are available upon request. Please email organizer to request a scholarship.
What to Bring:
We recommend that you bring a paper notebook and preferred writing implement (pen, pencil). We will also have extra paper and pens available.
Accessibility:
The main entrance has 5 steps, spaced into 1 then 3 then 1. Wheelchair accessibility can be arranged with advance notice. The hosts are also committed to offering a scent-reduced space and will themselves be fragrance-free. Due to the nature of the multi-use space, we cannot guarantee the location is entirely fragrance free.
