ABOUT JAZZ AT DREW
Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science (CDU) is committed to meeting the needs of the underserved and strives to positively impact their lives through quality medical education and community engagement initiatives such as Jazz at Drew, an all-day outdoor fundraiser featuring some of the most prolific names in jazz and R&B.
Headquartered in Los Angeles a former hotbed for all things related to jazz music. Jazz at Drew's emphasis on showcasing home-grown talent with international appeal has been the distinguishing factor that separates the event from larger jazz festivals in Southern California. More than any other event, it displays LA jazz in a range of styles all while being surrounded by a colorful marketplace. Additionally, the University carries on Founder Roland Betts' vision of leveraging the healing properties of music and medicine to connect various medical communities with the local community.
Former Jazz at Drew acts include music greats such as Earth, Wind and Fire, Nancy Wilson, Dionne Warwick, Bobby Womack, Brothers Johnson, The Chi-Lites, Poncho Sanchez, Hiroshima, The Rickey Minor Band and Friends, Kenny Burrell, Jill Scott, Joe Higgs and others.
Your ticket to Jazz at Drew not only gets you a seat to the hottest show in town, but also status as a donor and supporter of CDU. Proceeds from Jazz at Drew go towards enriching the CDU experience for students by funding University scholarships, student services, campus facilities, and pipeline programs.
The re-emergence of Jazz at Drew signals the return of one of Southern Californias premier jazz festivals and a place where Los Angeles residents can unwind, relax and mingle amongst each other and local leaders. Join us for a day of great music for a greater mission!
