SAIGON, USA: Screening and reception
Screening of SAIGON, USA followed by Catered reception at Saigon Bistro
Special guests: Director Robert Winn and Orange County Register reporter and film subject Nguyen Huy Vu Emcee: Lily Jang, Q13 FOX News
In 1999, when a Vietnamese video store owner posted a picture of communist leader Ho Chi Minh, the Vietnamese American community of Orange County, California, erupted in protest. This sparked directors Robert Winn and Lindsey Jang to make SAIGON, USA, a documentary that examines the explosive and complex dynamics of a community haunted by the aftermath of the Vietnam War. SAIGON, USA is the first major film to show the many facets of contemporary Vietnamese America, including the enormous generation gap between elders and their American-raised youth. This event is presented by the Northwest Asian American Film Festival (NWAAFF) and the Unity of Vietnamese Americans Committee (UVAC).
