Kick it with Carlynn: A Fundraiser for the East Coast
Peace, Love, and Poetry

Carlynn Newhouse has been a part of the art and social justice community in Seattle, deeply rooted in Arts Corps and Youth Speaks, as a poet, intern, and board member for the last 5 years. In August, she will be departing Seattle to attend her dream school, Howard University, as a Psychology major. This event is a fundraiser for her educational journey.

This will be Carlynn's first headlining show, as well as one of her last shows in Seattle before she flies across the country, so you don't want to miss it! While the thoughts of leaving are heavy, it is eased by the loving support of the family she has built in Seattle. Please come to 18th & Union for an afternoon of poetry, good food, her new chapbook: Flames in the Wind, and most importantly love and community!

Carlynn Newhouse is an African American poet, activist, actress, emcee, and performer. She holds the record for the only 3 time Youth Speaks Seattle Grand Slam Champion (2015, 2017, 2018) and competed in the Brave New Voices poetry festival in years 2015-2018. Carlynn has performed at well known venues such as Seattle Town Hall, Bumbershoot, the Kennedy Center, and others. Carlynn's work has been featured in Crosscut, the Seattle Review of Books, and XQ Super School Live. She writes about love, loss, community, race, the Black Lives Matter movement, faith, mental health, gender, and the life experiences that made her who she is today. She believes poetry is a form of activism and tool for raising awareness in hopes of making the world a safer space.

Tasty food provided by The Mommas (Jackie and Carlynn's mom).

Choose your own price. Carlynn's friends are covering the venue cost and ticketing fees, so every dollar goes to Carlynn to help her get started at Howard University.
