Introduction to Backpacking
Join Inga Aksamit for a three-hour course covering basics and examining gear. She will bring examples of all the gear needed. No actual hiking is involved in this instructional session.
The goal is to introduce participants to modern, lightweight backpacking strategies. Well touch on the following topics: equipment, trip planning, navigation, food, water treatment, common problems in the backcountry and how to avoid them. You don't need a heavy pack to enjoy a wilderness experience.
If you've never backpacked, or its been decades, this is for you! There will be tips for all--from backpacking with children to considerations for seniors. Inga is an experienced guide in the Sierra and beyond.
You might also consider registering for a separate event with Inga: her overnight session at Hood Mtn Regional Park, sponsored by the Sierra Club! Here is a link to register for that event: https://act.sierraclub.org/events/details?formcampaignid=7010Z000001quZJQAY
