UPDATE: If you are from out of town please contact us - usk.seattle@gmail.com - before making travel arrangements, especially airline reservations. We've had to make some last minute changes on some workshops.

LEARNING GOALS:
After taking this workshop students will be able to:
Paint figures using simple brush strokes
Focus on basic form to make impressions of people
Place people in context with believable proportions
Use values to distinguish people from context
Blend shapes to create groups, then add distinctions as desired
We will spend some time playing with watercolor to create water people for fun and practice. Then we will work on settings using the surroundings of our location as our focus.
The outcome will be more confidence and inclination to include people in their urban sketches. Students will be able to use different approaches in different sketching situations.

Jane Wingfield is a former website designer, artist and urban sketcher in Olympia. She got her start at the Chicago Art Institute Childrens Program and later studied art at the University of Washington, Western Washington State University and Evergreen State College working in oil painting and printmaking. She also studied sumi-e painting in Tokyo. She started teaching in 2017 by co-leading five weekly workshops, Sketch In the City: from studio artist to urban sketcher in five weeks, and followed that with a summer workshop, People in Places, in Olympia. Being an urban sketcher has given her the gumption to come out of the closet, pull out her sketchbook and start sketching just about anywhere.
