WANTED Invasive Species, Dead and removed!
Good afternoon everyone!

Come out and join for a lively discussion with Sonoma Ecology Center and the EarthCare Committee at the First Congregational Church, Burlingame Hall next Thursday, June 21 from 6:00-7:30 as we discuss the recent explosion of invasive weed plants in our parks that are building up our fuel load as we head into our dry season.

The rising mercury this week is reminding us all that fire season is once again upon us. We hope to never again have to go through the horrifying experience that we all experienced in Sonoma last fall. Unfortunately, the threat of wildfires remains a serious issue in our parks and open spaces. Our staff and many in the community have noticed a rush of weeds into the burned sites. These Nitro-philes are capitalizing on the opened space and increase in nutrients.

SEC Restoration project manager, Mark Newhouser will give a talk on the buildup of weed fuel load at Montini Preserve and Overlook trail, parks immediately surround our beloved Sonoma Plaza. As a restoration specialist and California Invasive Plant Council trainer, Mark will give information on appropriate removal techniques and management strategies that he has developed over the last 20 years.

Come learn about the management strategies and how you can get your hands on to help with preventative measures to reduce fuel load and increase biodiversity in Sonoma and at our Montini Preserve.
