Finding the Figure: Charcoal on Paper with Alyssa Monks
Thursday, July 26 | 2-5 PM | $125* ($100 for Friends of SAC)

This three hour intensive workshop is designed to guide the students toward constructing an accurate and expressive figure drawing, using efficient measuring techniques and sensitive line quality. It aims to instruct students on how to use a live model to create a drawing that captures the essence of the figure, pose, and mood - simply through line and tone. The workshop will explain how to use fundamental measuring techniques to map the figure on the page and strategies on how to construct the drawing. Once the figure is mapped out, emphasis is then placed on line and application. By focusing on deliberate strokes, we will accentuate the structural volumes of the form, concentrating on relating all parts of the picture to each other. We will explore ways of seeing the picture objectively, how to imply detail without overstating, and what level of finish works best for the particular drawing or style. The final result can be a drawing that captures
the essence of your and contains the intimacy of the human touch.

Ages 18+. All levels. Materials will be provided.

*Registration includes one ticket to the 7 PM conversation in the theater between Alyssa Monks and New York Academy of Art President David Kratz.
