FARMWALK 2018: Fermented Feed for Pastured Poultry & On-Farm Nutrient Management
Our host, Farmer Matt Steinman welcomes us to Foothills Farm, in Sedro Woolley, WA. He will be sharing the logistics and efficiencies of the fermented feed system he is using for his rotationally pastured laying flock. This includes a look into the techniques and tactics he has developed for his truly mobile chicken tractor, as well as his chicken powered nutrient management strategies for building healthy and productive soil.
Matt exclusively uses Scratch and Peck Feed for his layer operation, which are Certified Organic, Non-GMO Project Verified animal feeds, using only the freshest, most wholesome, organic grains and ingredients available. He has also recently teamed up with Independent Agricultural Research Consultant, Louisa Winkler, on a research project, looking into the nutrient efficiencies and outcomes or his feeding system.
