Blue Monarch Presents Laura Ivancie and Special Guests at New Thought Center for Spiritual Living
Soul touching and truth telling - Laura Ivancie blends musical stylings, lyrics and vocal deliveries that are frequently breathtaking. Laura's music is a mix of many genres, including elements of electronic, alternative folk, blues, and soul. Laura's soulful voice and captivating smile turn her performance venues into a communal living room. A Portland native, Laura has distilled the passions and travels of her 29 years into a seemingly effortless powerful presence that is captivating and infinitely approachable.
Attending college in both Southern California and Oregon, her spirit blossomed playing college basketball, fighting fires with the US Forest Service, and songwriting, while pursuing her academic program. Having acquired skills in Applied Psychology/Organizational Development she hit the road with her guitar, immersing herself in Spanish culture in South America and working as an English teacher briefly in Buenos Aires. After graduating and returning to Portland in 2008, music became her focus - and the gift she shares with the world.
Laura takes from her life experience to create songs that paint images and stir the emotions of those who listen. Recently her musical and energetic exploration journey is diverging a bit from her initial acoustic/folk/blues sound.
As a solo singer/ songwriter she's working on a new "live" DVD/ CD music and video project, having made a debut performance in "Reach Out," a dream-like urban anthem produced by hip hop artist My-G.
Her steady performances in Dojo Toolkit, a soulful trip-hop incubator project with Tony Smiley and Wil Koehnke push her stream of consciousness stylings in new free form directions.
Close to Laura's heart, is her back up vocal work with Grammy recognized vocalist and producer Skyler Jett - and his Conscious Music for Causes inspirational organization.
Recently, Laura had the honor of performing for a "Pre-Event for Bruce Springsteen" in the Sphere Room for the premier members of the Portland Trail Blazers at the Rose Garden.
Laura's debut EDM E.P., produced by herself and Keith Schreiner of Auditory Sculpture, engineered and mixed by recent Grammy nominee, Lars Fox, showcases her deep affinity for electronic dance music. Being a fan of Keith Schreiner since she first heard him in 2002 with Dahlia, this E.P. Project is like a dream come true.
Laura is joined for this show by poet and spoken word artist Garret Potter. Garret Potter is cursed with a consideration he has learned can be turned into gifts: poems; heart-pounding, mind-delving inquiries and observations on vulnerability, community, and sustainability. He likes the moments shared with new people and old friends, new movies and old books, new eateries and old growth forests.
Garret has come from eight states and Japan to find himself a familiar name in the National Poetry Slam communitycompeting in the Individual World Poetry Slam in 2012, winning slam competitions in Portland (three times), Little Rock, and Springfield, placing second in Austin, Seattle, and Eugene, and doing feature performances at slams in Pittsburgh, Kansas City, Jackson, and Ogden.
He has performed in eight Universities and colleges, nine public schools, near seventy Portland venues, Tomfest, Cornerstone, and at tour stops across the United States. His work has appeared in Portland's Orange Lining project, Christianity Today's This Is Our City, the 9 Kinds Of Smart seminar by Dr. Doreen Dodgen-Magee, and the documentary film One Nation Under God (available on Netflix). In 2009, NW Media printed his first album and booklet, Other Nights Echo. And in 2012, Eberhardt Press printed his full-length book debut, Hide And Seek: A Poet's Memoir of which the first edition sold out in three months.
