Dance Theatre of Harlem School Spring Performance
Each year the Dance Theatre of Harlem School showcases its talented students in the Annual Spring Performance. This year the school will present an original production of the Hans Christian Anderson fairytale "The Ugly Duckling" featuring 200 students ages 3 to 23. The ballet choreographed by DTH School Director Endalyn Taylor is colorful, inventive, entertaining and inspiring - making for high quality family programing. In addition, the DTH Ensemble comprising several future stars of the ballet world, will perform selections of the repertoire.
Co-founded by Arthur Mitchell and the late Karel Shook in 1969, Dance Theatre of Harlem began as a personal commitment to bring hope and opportunity to the children of Harlem in the wake of the assassination of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Almost forty years later, DTH has become a leading dance institution of unparalleled international acclaim with an accredited world-class school that trains young people in classical ballet and the allied arts and a national and international education and outreach program, Dancing Through Barriers that provides positive role models, instruction and an introduction to the arts for individuals of all ages, particularly in urban centers. DTH provides over half of its students with scholarships and/or tuition aid, with support from individuals, foundations, corporations and the government. Today, Dance Theatre of Harlem continues to ignite minds and change lives, and stands as a beacon of hope and possibility for the many young people who walk through its doors. DTH helps young people develop to their fullest potential as artists and human beings by instilling discipline, self-confidence, a sense of creativity and self-esteem all building blocks for success in life. DTHs alumni are found in major dance companies around the world as well as in medicine, education, law, business, government and other professional fields. Visit www.dancetheatreofharlem.org
