Starting Blocks: A step-by-step guide to finding the right creative partner
You have a critical project for your organization, a precious budget, and limited resources available. What next? Join us and learn how to run a successful request for proposal process and get your design project off to a great start with the right partner.

We will be covering the ways to align your team internally, define your problem, write a request, invite and evaluate candidates, plan an optimal process and timeline, common pitfalls to avoid, and how to get your project underway so that you make the most of your resources.

The workshop will be led by Leslie Hale, founder of brand strategy firm Knot Strategy, and Michael Ellsworth co-founder and Chief Creative Officer of design practice Civilization.

Leslie Hale is a seasoned strategist with more than 20 years helping brands to determine what they should stand for, where they should head next and is adept in developing business, brand, and market strategies. Leslie delivers significant results for organizations ranging from start-ups to multi-nationals by understanding the critical factors in a given situation through research, leading collaborative initiatives across broad stakeholders, and translating insights into action. She has lead executive teams, strategic initiatives and complex marketing programs to best position offerings in the market space for launch, optimal growth, or long-term vision. Clients include FareStart, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Microsoft, Target Corporation, The Boeing Company, The Nature Conservancy, University of California-Santa Barbara.

Michael Ellsworth has honed his skills as a creative director, producer, curator, teacher and public programmer, while working in the design field for over 13 years. Ellsworth has led workshops on ideation at SXSW, taught courses at Western Washington University and the Frye Art Museum on the responsibility of designers, and has spoken to audiences at the AIGA, CreativeMornings, and Practivism (GDC) on how to use design as a means of social change. A few of Civilization's clients include, The Biennale of Sydney, Death over Dinner, The Department of Energy, Farestart, Miller Hull, National Head Start Association, Shout Your Abortion, Totokaelo, and the World Economic Forum. Civilization's work has won numerous awards, including the 2017 Peoples Voice Webby Award for Best Activist Website. Their work is included in the Museum of Modern Arts permanent collection, and has been featured in most major global media outlets such as The Guardian, The New York Times, Huffington Post and NPR.
