MWE - Live Balkan Music Party in Fresno
Carís Naré Entertainment presents San Francisco-based MWE. MWE will perform roots Balkan and Turkish music live in concert at The Carís School of Dance, 1416 Broadway in Fresno, California, Friday evening, April 5th at 8pm. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at mwefresno.brownpapertickets.com or by calling 559-473-8184. Adults 18+ are invited to attend.
Taking cues from the traditional music of Turkey, Greece, and the Balkans, MWE puts a modern and eclectic twist on acoustic party music. This five-member wind ensemble plays traditional songs with the rarely paired clarinet and the double-reeded zurna, an oboe-like instrument which generates a sharp, piercing sound. The group's pulse and power is built around the davul, a special, marching drum that is usually made of hard wood.
Drawing on the same musical traditions as Gogol Bodello and Balkan Beat Box, MWE shows are loud and wild affairs known for enticing entire audiences to their feet in one song or less. Often found playing hit-and-run gigs in San Francisco's Mission District, they've also played at established world music venues Ashkenaz and Yoshi's Lounge. Join MWE for an evening of entertainment at The Carís School of Dance, 1416 Broadway in Fresno, on April 5th at 8pm. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door.
