Mezcla feat. Jamie Johnson [Glasgow Jazz Festival]
Mezcla is a world jazz/fusion collective at the forefront of Glasgows vibrant improvised music scene. Led by bass player David Bowden (BBC Young Scottish Jazz Musician of the Year 2017), Mezcla features some of Scotlands brightest stars and is already attracting attention for its innovative blend of soulful jazz and energetic grooves. Skilfully fusing influences from West Africa to Latin America and beyond, Mezcla's music is distinguished by its uplifting melodies, shimmering textures, and visceral improvisation.
Acclaimed Glasgow-based artist Jamie Johnson has exhibited work across across Europe and Canada. Specialising in painting, printmaking and video, his work draws influences from modern and ancient cultural symbolism, resulting in gently surreal compositions featuring rich detail and collages of colour.
In a highly anticipated collaboration, Mezcla will perform a brand new set of vibrant, genre-spanning jazz to accompany the moving patterns and textures of Jamies atmospheric visuals. This project has been made possible by Help Musicians UK.
