Story Club Minneapolis is a live monthly storytelling show featuring both an open mic segment and a curated set of performers from all over the Twin Cities arts scene and beyond. The Story Club stage showcases true, autobiographical stories -- especially stories that are bold, vulnerable, unexpected, and connected to the complexity of our cultural environment... and especially voices that audiences might not get to hear in other contexts. Founded in 2009 by actor/writer Dana Norris as part of the explosively popular live lit scene in Chicago, Story Club gained citywide attention and rave reviews, and quickly branched out to create chapters in other cities, including Boston, Cleveland and Columbus, OH.  Here in Minneapolis, no two Story Club evenings are ever alike, but each month when we wrap up the show, we feel like we've witnessed a new, unique little community coming together.

So! Starting at 6pm, audience members are invited to put their names in the jar for the opportunity to tell an up-to-7-minute story onstage. When the show begins, three or four tellers are drawn at random to perform, and they'll be followed by our featured guests. Does this make you want to tell a story? GOOD! (Do it! Do it! Do it!)

Jessica Zuehlke arrives to the spoken word world on the heels of teaching theater to Minnesota students for over 40 years. Currently her life centers around care for her 88 year old mother, teaching workshops, and over the last two years, delving into the storytelling scene with performances at Cheap Theatre and Heidi House. Living in Red Wing with her husband, Jim, gives her a gorgeous backdrop to develop her new craft and love of stories. You can find her at www.churchbasementladies.com, a website that mostly represents the hilarious Minnesota-flavored play she wrote with her husband thats produced by theatres all over the country.

Jim Stowell has been a professional actor, director, playwright and storyteller for almost fifty years. He was the co-founder of the Minnesota Ensemble Theater and the Palace Theater in Minneapolis; wrote and directed eleven full-cast plays; and was a major force in the development of the solo monologue scene in the Twin Cities with his autobiographical one-man plays like Cuba Si, Tribes, Talking Pictures, and Traveling Light.  His work has been performed at the Guthrie, and in New York City, Chicago, Atlanta, Houston, the back room of a bar, a barn, Mexico, Guatemala, Nicaragua, and in the rainforest of Brazil. Watch for Jim in the MN Fringe Festival and then NYCs United Solo festival this summer, performing his theatrical adaptation of Tim O'Brien's The Things They Carried. You can read lots more about him at www.jimstowell.com.
