You already know Chicago has a national reputation as a great food city, but in recent years, its also been recognized as one of the best bookstore cities in the country and as the face of the national indie bookstore renaissance because of its unique concentration of new and established stores. So why not spend April 29 - the Sunday after national Independent Bookstore Day - exploring three of our finest indies.
The tour will start and end at Bookends & Beginnings. Please arrive at 11am and expect to be back around 4:45pm.
FIRST STOP: Bookends & Beginnings Meet, greet, and shop at Bookends & Beginnings, a cozy eclectic store nestled in an alley in the heart of Evanston, featuring new and used books, gifts, stationery with an outstanding cookbook section and kids books in 28 foreign languages.
LUNCH While at Bookends & Beginnings, enjoy a catered lunch from Bat 17, a local pub that serves some of the finest and high quality sandwiches in town!
SECOND STOP: Lake Forest Book Store Board a bus to Lake Forest, for a stop at The Lake Forest Book Store, a charming independent book store on Chicago's north shore that has been in operation since 1949, serving its community by offering customers a well read staff, gifts, stationery, and toys.
THIRD STOP: The Book Stall Move on to The Book Stall, Winnetka's community book store founded in 1940. The Book Stall has something for everyone--fiction, travel, cooking, children's books, biographies--and hosts a variety of special events.
The group will board the bus back to Bookends & Beginnings to arrive around 4:45pm.
Please note that parking is available for FREE on Sundays in the Sherman Avenue, Maple Avenue or Church Street parking garages (www.downtownevanston.org/parking). Downtown Evanston is also accessible via the CTA Purple Line or Metra UP-N Line, which both stop at Davis Street.
