"Ostara has been providing the highest quality Scottish produce to Leith for the past two years.
Scotland has one of the richest natural larders and a thriving food history and tradition.
Supporting local producers and small food businesses ensure a more resilient food system that strengthens our communities and helps support the people and families who produce what we eat.
At the Slow Food AGM on 22nd April 2018 we would like to introduce both members and non-members to some of the wonderful produce we use."

The food provided for the evening will be served as a cold buffet and will include:

Tobermory cold smoked sea trout

Traditional Puddledub pork pie

East Coast Cured charcuterie

Barwheys unpasteurised cheese (Mossgiel Milk)

Phantassie Organic seasonal salads

Company Bakery and Breadshare sourdough breads

Edinburgh Butter Co flavoured butters

Homemade 'Mungoswells' scones served with whipped Mossgiel cream and jam.

Seasonal chutney, aioli, pesto and accompaniments made by us.

A bit more details about the producers:

Delicious non-homogenised whole milk produced by the Cunningham family on their farm at Mossgiel in Ayr. We use this milk in our coffee, but its also used to make Barwheys Cheese. An unpasteurised cows milk cheese matured for 24 months, also produced in Ayr.

Real Scottish sourdough bread from Company Bakery, milled and baked in Leith. Their bread takes three days to make and is a real labour of love.

Seven Seeds sourdough bread made by Debra and Geoff Riddel at Breadshare bakery. Breadshare is an organic bakery and social enterprise helping communities re-learn real bread making.

Butter from the new Edinburgh Butter co, producing flavoured and cultured butter in the city centre.

Organic eggs from Bonnington Farm in Pebbles. Real free range.

Cold smoked sea-trout from Tobermory on Mull. Ostara is the only place in Edinburgh using this wonderful product. The Tobermory Fish co have been smoking the best of Scotlands seafood since 1971.

Puddledub traditional pork pie produced by the Mitchell family at their farm at Auctertool, in Fife. We use Toms pork and have done since we opened. We believe he produces the best bacon in Scotland.

East Coast Cured is a family charcuterie business based in Leith, specialising in the production of traditional, and contemporary, slow cured Scottish pork, beef, venison and poultry. Susie and Steven believe passionately that the true craft of curing means taking produce of the highest quality and with skill, patience and time, creating something truly exceptional.

Phantassie have been supplying Ostara with organic fruit and vegetables from the beginning. What they dont grow themselves they source from organic farms around East Lothian and the rest of the U.K. Freshly roasted and ground Fairtrade, often organic, coffee by Williams and Johnson Coffee Co.

Zach Williams and Todd Johnson started their coffee business in Leith when Ostara opened and we became the first cafe to start using their coffee. Our bean switches every few months highlighting changing coffee seasons around the world.
