DEMENE E. HALL is SYCORAX
SHORT-TERM REMOUNT OF Y YORK PLAY AT 18TH & UNION

Snowflake Avalanche proudly remounts its production of SYCORAX for 4 days only at 18th & Union. The play has been invited as a featured production at the Last Frontier Theatre Conference in Valdez in June.

"Inspired by William Shakespeares classic play, The Tempest, Y Yorks Sycorax is a powerful monodrama independent of the influencing work, that premiered at 18th & Union last night on Capitol Hill. Directed by Mark Lutwak, an experienced freelance director, Y Yorks play wrestles with major themes of revenge and forgiveness while noting how race, gender, and discrimination ultimately impact the fate and representation of the character.

In an unbelievable solo performance, the brilliant Demene E. Hall assumes the titular and only role of the play, offering a version of the character that differs significantly from Shakespeares original antagonist.  Though presented simply as an evil sorceress in The Tempest, Sycorax undertakes a more nuanced interpretation of the character, utilizing themes of racial and sexual oppression to challenge the audience to redefine their preconceptions of good and evil, lest they be confined to understand history as written by the victor." -- Drama in the Hood

Playwright Y York's THE IMPOSSIBILITY OF NOW just performed to rave reviews in a production by Thalia's Umbrella. Seattle audiences have seen her plays AFTERNOON OF THE ELVES, GETTING NEAR TO BABY, CRASH, FROG & TOAD (FOREVER), THE PORTRAIT THE WIND THE CHAIR, WITCH OF BLACKBIRD POND, NOTHING IS THE SAME, MASK OF THE UNICORN WARRIOR, & THE GARDEN OF RIKKI TIKKI TAVI at Seattle Childrens Theatre, as well as IT COMES AROUND  Theatre Under the Influence and THE SNOWFLAKE AVALANCHE at the Seattle Group Theatre. You can find out more at www.yyork.com.

SYCORAX is directed by Mark Lutwak; designs are by Frances Kenny, Johanna Melamed and Ryan Dunn. Andrew Lee Creech is dramaturg.
