George Heslin's Acting Workshop
George studied theatre at The Samuel Beckett Center for Drama in Dublin, Ireland and later as an apprentice under Uta Hagen at HB Studio in New York. He is the founder and owner of one of New York's most successful Off-Broadway theatre companies, Origin Theatre, which Backstage Magazine says "is one of the most respected the Northeast." The New York Times recently published that George's theatre company "has brought some of the cream of the crop to New York audiences" and that theatre goers should "jump at the chance to take it in." Even New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg got in on the act while attending Origin's Ten-Year Celebration by stating, "Origin Theatre has truly lived up to its goal of being a gateway to the United States for European artists. We look forward to ten and more years in excellence in the arts."
Caleb Stokes has personally known George for quite some time, and besides being well respected in the New York theatre community, he is also extremely helpful at guiding young actors who are looking to begin or establish their careers. If you plan on moving to or auditioning in New York within the next few years, George is an excellent contact to make. Several friends of mine have received internships, auditioned for, and even received roles in plays he either directed or produced. What's more, is he KEEPS ALL HEADSHOTS on file, so be sure to bring him your updated headshot and resume.
What to expect from the Acting Workshop:
- 2 to 3 Hours dedicated to a Q & A on the business of acting
(how to get an agent, obtain auditions, start a theatre company,
advice on headshots, Unions, theatre and film, etc.)
- 3 Hours of monologue preparation and performance critique
(come prepared with at least one monologue)
- 3 Hours devoted to acting exercises developed by Uta Hagen
(with specific interest dedicated to her "physical development" technique
- 3 Hours of Audition Technique offered
(actors work through a mock audition of the professional world; sides
from a play or film will be provided)
The entire 11-12 hour acting workshop will run at only $40! If you're interested in this two day workshop or have any questions, email Caleb at cwstokes@go.olemiss.edu or you can contact him via his cell phone number at 843-830-5994.
