Young Explorers 2013 - Dinosaur Detectives, June 24-28, 8:30 - 11:30 am

Become a junior paleontologist and time travel through New Mexico's Mesozoic and Cenozoic eras seeking prehistoric animals. Discover how paleontologists use detective skills and trek through Triassic and Jurassic forests, cross Cretaceous seas, and traverse Tertiary grasslands in search of answers. Activities include art projects, games, stories, investigating real specimens from the Museum's collections, and visits to the Museum's exhibits. Classes are limited to 15 children and are taught by two adult instructors and one aide.  (For children entering Kindergarten & 1st grade in 2013-2014 school year).

Aftercare is not available for morning sessions of half-day camp.  Parents must pick-up children at 11:30am.

This program is also offered: July 15-19 (1-2) and July 22-26 (K-1), look for a separate Brown Paper Ticket listing.

Camps may be available for purchase at the Museum when online sales have ended. Please call 505 841-2861 or email to inquire into camp availability.

Scholarships are available for children who qualify and are awarded based on need. To apply go to and download the form containing the Scholarship application and instructions. For additional questions please do call 505 841-2861.

All campers must be picked-up by 11:30 AM. Campers not picked up by 11:45 AM will be charged a $20 late pick-up fee.  Payment of fee must be made by cash or check at time of camper pick-up.
    -Our camp instructors are teachers or scientists. They have all completed first aid and CPR. All instructors submit to a background check before teaching camp.
    -Please note that Museum staff cannot take responsibility for dispensing prescription or over-the-counter medications.
    -Campers are required to provide their own lunch, snack, and drink. Campers must wear appropriate clothing and shoes for active learning.

The New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science reserves the right to cancel any event that does not reach a minimum of 6 participants.
